Last month's Old Home Day festivities included the bestowing of Honored Citizen awards on Charlie and Joanne Forsberg, residents of Carlisle for more than 40 years and active volunteers in the community throughout all of those years. As stated in the presentation, their contributions to the town include Charlie’s presence as a Carlisle Minuteman, youth sports organizer, and president of the Carlisle Historical Society; Joanne was instrumental in the creation of the town’s first preschool, worked on the food co-op in earlier years, and has served on the editing team of the local newspaper. During the same ceremony, Warren Lyman was recognized as Conservationist of the Year, with his contributions including developing management plans for Towle Field, the Greenough Land, and the Cranberry Bog, as well as leading the effort to remodel and preserve the historic Cranberry Bog House. In a new category this year, the Conservation Commission presented its Junior Conservationist award to 13-year-old Claire Brandhorst, in recognition of her special efforts to protect local wildlife, including posting signs warning drivers to watch for turtles crossing the road.
