On July 1, the fare for The Ride doubled — going from $2 per one-way trip to $4 — as part of the MBTA’s efforts to balance its budget. Although the fare is still far less than the MBTA pays for the service, advocates for the disabled say the increase is hitting those who can least afford to pay it. “The vast majority of people who use the Ride are not employed,” said Jonathan Gale, disability advocacy coalition coordinator at the Disability Law Center of Massachusetts.
