More Than Words, a Moody Street bookstore, café, and nonprofit that helps at-risk youths who are homeless or in the foster and juvenile justice systems learn the ropes of running a business, is gearing up for it annual Shop-a-thon on Dec. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. The event offers shoppers a chance to browse books, sample café drinks, play games and trivia, and help the organization reach its $2,000 fund-raising goal in one night. If More Than Words reaches its goal, the organization’s board will match the amount. More Than Words teaches teens to manage a retail and online used bookstore, and in the process instills a sense of independence, empowerment, and responsibility in participants, who also receive case management to help them reach educational and career goals. The bookstore is at 376 Moody St. Visit www.mtwyouth.org for more information.
