To reflect its ongoing transformation into a walkable retail and entertainment complex, the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center has been renamed “The Street,’’ the property’s locally based owner and manager, WS Development, announced Wednesday. The Route 9 retail complex is undergoing redevelopment to “place it at the forefront of serving shoppers both locally and beyond,” according to the center’s website. The phased changes, designed by Cambridge-based Prellwitz/Chilinski Associates , will include pedestrian walkways, outdoor dining, cafes, and new buildings with glass facades overlooking Hammond Pond. “The transformation of the Chestnut Hill Shopping Center into ‘The Street’ brings a hip new ‘town center’ buzzing with shops and outdoor cafes enlivening new tree-lined sidewalks and streets, knitting together a host of new shopping and entertainment opportunities,” said David Chilinski, president of Prellwitz/Chilinski Associates .
