Selectmen keep single tax rate

The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously at its Nov. 20 meeting to maintain the town’s single tax rate for the current fiscal year. The vote means the owners of residential properties will pay the same tax rate as those owning commercial or industrial properties in town. Municipal officials have the option of setting a split rate, putting more of the local tax burden on one of the categories. The board opted against that option because “now is not the right time to change from a single tax rate,” according to an announcement by the town.
