More than 300 school districts nationwide have adopted a controversial safety protocol known as ALICE — standing for alert, lockdown, inform, counter, evacuate. It has gained widespread support among law enforcement officials in Massachusetts, and a recent ALICE instructor-training session attracted representatives from Canton, Concord, Dedham, Framingham, Franklin, New Bedford, Wellesley, Westborough, and Winchester, as well as from New Hampshire and Connecticut.
