Arrange personal visit by Santa

The Police Department is bringing Santa to town for the holidays once again. The first 100 families to sign up will receive a personal visit from Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. According to Police Chief Michael J. Bradley Jr., the visits have been organized by the Upton Police Association for more than 15 years, although how the event got started is shrouded in mystery. "Members of the department volunteer to bring Santa by the addresses in Upton on his list," Bradley said. If families who are expecting him leave presents outside, Santa will bring them into their home. This year, Santa is planning to visit between 1 and 6 p.m. on Dec. 24, escorted by local police officers. Calls to request a visit are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, Bradley said, but the department tries to accommodate all who call. "We usually have all the requests by Dec. 22, and we can help schedule the visits then," he said. Specific arrival times can be requested but are not promised. Families will be called on Dec. 22 with an approximate arrival time. To request a visit, call the Police Department at 508-529-3200.
