The Rockland Street Bridge will soon be reopened, unsnarling traffic and soothing the headaches of residents frustrated by construction delays that have kept the bridge closed since January. When the reconstruction work began, it was expected to be finished by early fall, but the project was delayed because the bridge’s abutments had to be redesigned, according to state Department of Transportation spokesman Michael Verseckes. The latest estimate has the bridge reopening late this month, Verseckes said. The project’s price tag — originally pegged at $1.6 million — has been bumped up to $2.3 million.
