Animal control officer Lisa Podielsky said she is keeping a close eye on two cases of alleged animal cruelty. A man hoarding junk on his property has created conditions that threaten the health of his horse and two dogs, she said in a report to selectmen, although evidence of cleanup efforts were visible during a recent property check. Podielsky is also watching the owner of a 30-pound pit bull. She reported that she is considering charging the man with animal cruelty — a felony accompanied by a fine of $2,500 — because a healthy pit bull should weigh at least 70 pounds. She is trying to avoid charges by seizing the animal for adoption.
