To ring in the New Year, City Hall is hosting an open house Monday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. as part of Newton’s Thirteen Villages — One Community campaign. Admission is a nonperishable food item for the Newton Food Pantry, or a donation of children’s boots, jackets, gloves, or books for the Cradles to Crayons program, according to the city. Mayor Setti Warren will be there, and activities will include face painting, balloon animals, and entertainment, with performers including the Newton Family Singers, puppets and song with Diana Kane,  members of the Joanne Langione Dance Studio,  and Big Joe the Storyteller. Refreshments will be available. For more information, contact the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs at 617-796-1540 or e-mail or, or go online to
