Community farm offers winter courses

Newton Community Farm’s winter education program is offering a variety of courses for children, gardeners, and those who have an interest in the outdoors, food, and farming. There will be a special activity for children on Feb. 6, an early-release day for the city’s schools, and a vacation week program, “Kids on the Farm — Then and Now,’’  is slated for Feb. 21 at the Jackson Homestead.  For gardeners, classes include Planning Your Garden for a Four-Season Bounty, Growing Fruit Trees, and Defensive Urban Gardening. The farm is also offering a course on beer brewing, and a guided tree walk in Nahanton Park. For more information on the slate of classes and to register, visit www.newtoncommunityfarm.org.
