Wong takes seat on regional board

The local school district’s former superintendent, Bella Wong, is remaining active in education circles, after joining the regional school board overseeing Minuteman Career & Technical High in Lexington last month. The vocational school’s 16 member communities include Weston, where Wong lives. Wong said she decided to volunteer for the seat after she saw an announcement that Weston’s representative, John Blyzinskyj, could no longer attend the board’s meetings because of a new job. Wong’s interim term will expire on June 30, 2014, according to Deborah Davenport, the Weston town clerk. Wong resigned as the head of Wellesley’s schools last spring after a tumultuous year, in which the district came under fire for uncollected lunch fees and a harsh audit of the business office's practices. Wong said she has also done volunteer work for superintendent groups, and said the Minuteman position is allowing her a chance to do more in vocational education. Wong said she's still learning about the vocational school and the regional committee’s structure. “I'm still catching up,” Wong said about her new role. “I've been doing a lot more listening.”
