Nomination papers due Feb. 12

Residents looking to run for office in the April 2 election face a Feb. 12 deadline for returning their nomination papers to the town clerk’s office. To be included on the ballot for a townwide position, residents must file the completed forms accompanied by the signatures of at least 50 local registered voters, while Town Meeting seats require signatures from at least 25 precinct residents. A posting by the town clerk’s office recommends collecting at least 20 percent more signatures than required, to cover potential disqualifications. The positions on the ballot include single seats on the Board of Selectmen and the Board of Health, and two on the School Committee and on the Board of Library Trustees. There will also be 12 Town Meeting positions in each of the town’s eight precincts on the ballot. For more information, call the clerk’s office at 617-993-2600, e-mail townclerk@belmont-ma.gov, or visit the municipal website, www.belmont-ma.gov.
