Natick

Run Marathon for local charities

The town is seeking runners interested in obtaining an official entry in this spring’s Boston Marathon in exchange for raising $4,000 for one of several local nonprofit community organizations. As the Marathon’s sponsor, the Boston Athletic Association provides official numbers to host communities along the race’s route to help raise money for local causes. Natick has 20 Boston Marathon entries available for runners who commit to raising at least $4,000 by May 31 for a local organization; on the town’s list this year are the Justin Bailey Memorial Scholarship, the Natick Service Council, the Natick Education Foundation, and Embrace A Family, which is a program of the Rotary Club of Natick. The town’s numbers are available on a first-come, first-served basis, though five are reserved for the Michael Carter Lisnow Respite Center in Hopkinton, and one for a Natick resident running in memory of his son. For further information, and to obtain contact information for a selected charity, contact the Board of Selectmen's office at 508-647-6410 or mfleming@natickma.org. The Boston Marathon will take place on April 15, according to the organization's website.
