Search for high school principal reopens

The school district is resuming the search for a high school principal after calling it off last year, with a screening committee being assembled to begin interviewing candidates this month. The search group, which will include parents, teachers, and administrators, will hold its orientation meeting Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the School Committee’s meeting room at Arlington High School. The initial search was called off in February, after Superintendent Kathleen Bodie said a committee was unable to recommend three finalists for the job. Mary Villano has been serving as the interim principal ever since Charles Skidmore retired in 2011. The new advisory screening committee will interview candidates and recommend three or four finalists, Bodie announced in a recent letter to parents. She said the school district will also hold a parent and community forum about the hiring process at 7 p.m. Jan. 14, and additional forums will be held at the high school for parents to meet the finalists recommended by the search panel.
