To ease the transition to prekindergarten, the school district is holding an open house for parents and youngsters Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Memorial Elementary School, 69 Main St. Registration for next fall begins the week of Jan. 28 for Upton children who will be 3 or 4 years old on or before Aug. 31, and who are toilet trained. Parents provide their own transportation. The morning class for 3-year-olds will be held Monday through Thursday from 9 to 11:30 a.m., with the monthly tuition fee approximately $303. The session for 4-year-olds will be Monday through Friday from 12:30 to 3 p.m., with a monthly tuition fee of about $378; the figures for next school year have not been finalized. Registration tickets will be available at the school office; the deadline to register is 3 p.m. Feb. 1. For parents of students entering kindergarten, a general information event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Memorial School. Children must be age 5 by Aug. 31 to attend kindergarten; registrations will be completed by appointment on Feb. 11 and 12. Information about the Spanish immersion kindergarten program for Upton children will be presented Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. at Nipmuc Regional High School. The program has room for 52 kindergartners in the fall.
