Unity Breakfast to remember MLK

Watertown will celebrate its 13th annual Unity Breakfast, which brings together hundreds of people representing the community’s diverse population to remember the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., on Jan. 21. The event will feature a talk by Robert Lewis Jr., a civic and nonprofit leader who serves as the Boston Foundtion’s vice president for program. The breakfast will also include performances by the Greater Boston Intergenerational Chorus and Chosen Voices of Harmony; the reading of essays by middle and high school students on the meaning of the day; and the presentation of the annual Unity Award to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding community service. The breakfast, sponsored by the World in Watertown in collaboration with the Survival Education Fund Inc., starts at 9 a.m. at the Hellenic Cultural Center, at 25 Bigelow Ave. Child care will be provided for preschoolers. Tickets are $10 for adults; children age 12 and younger will be admitted for free. To make reservations, call 617-924-6143 or e-mail fpwatertown@comcast.net. Tickets will also be available at the door.
