Police make the shift to SUVs

For years, local police have been buying Ford SUVs,  a growing national trend as officers look for more sizable vehicles. Stow Police Chief Bosworth says the move came on the heels of a decision by Ford Motor Co.  to no longer provide police with its standard vehicle, the Ford Crown Victoria, anymore.  The SUVs now cost only $2,800  more than the other Ford sedan alternatives, and they represent more vehicle for the money, wrote Bosworth in a recent e-mail. Local police regularly use the SUVs offroad in the state forest land and in the Assabet River Wildlife Refuge Area.
