The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Tuesday night to sponsor a warrant article calling for a moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries and cultivation in town until March 1, 2014, according to Sandy Cincotta, an assistant to the town manager. The Planning Board will hold a public hearing on the article, which will go before Town Meeting in May. The moratorium was inspired by concerns that town officials would not have enough time to write local regulations implementing the medical marijuana law approved by Massachusetts voters in November. The state Department of Public Health is working on statewide regulations, but those will not be out until May.
