Local officials are accepting applications for higher education scholarships distributed by the city. Any Waltham resident who is planning to attend college, graduate school, trade school, or certain other accredited institutions may be eligible for a scholarship. The applications and financial aid questionnaires are available in the treasurer/collector’s office at City Hall, 610 Main St., and on the municipal website, www.city.waltham.ma.us. Applications must be received by March 22. A four-member committee will review them and announce the recipients in June. The city established the scholarship fund in 1987, and taxpayers voluntarily contribute to it by through a check-off included with the city’s annual excise tax payments. Last year, 20 local students received scholarships to continue their education, according to the city. For more information, contact the treasurer’s office at 781-314-3250.
