The Brookline High School 21st Century Fund will host a discussion about academic rigor in public high schools at 7 p.m. Thursday. Carey Goldberg, a cohost of WBUR’s CommonHealth blog and a former chief of The New York Times’ Boston bureau, will moderate the discussion in Wheelock College’s Ladd Room, 43 Hawes St. The free event will explore the meaning of academic rigor, how to balance standards and intellectual risk-taking, and how to lessen stress for students while providing a curriculum that leads to high standardized-test scores and admission to selective colleges. Panelists are Lisa Guisbond, a policy analyst for the National Center for Fair and Open Testing; Jim Stergios, executive director of the Pioneer Institute; and Tony Wagner, an innovation education fellow at the Technology and Entrepreneurship Center at Harvard University.
