Mount Ida College will start a $12 million restoration and new building project this summer to expand its offerings to residential and commuter students. College officials announced last week that they will build the school’s first student center in Carlson Hall, build a new student fitness center, expand academic facilities such as the dental hygiene center, and complete the reconstruction of the largest residence hall on campus. The construction is scheduled to begin in May and be complete by August, according to a press release from the school. The college in the Oak Hill neighborhood of Newton is experiencing growth in its career-focused programs, including dental hygiene and science, school officials said. The college will use a mix of bond revenue, operating income, and gifts to finance the projects, school officials said.
