Deadline to opt out of mosquito spraying

The deadline for applying to have your home excluded from the town Board of Health’s pesticide-spraying program to control gypsy moth and mosquito populations is Monday. Send a certified letter to the Shrewsbury Board of Health, 100 Maple Ave., Shrewsbury, MA 01545-5398, that contains the property owner’s name, address, and telephone number, the names of all neighbors, and a list of specific spraying programs to be excluded. The exclusions are valid for a year. Last year, several human cases of West Nile and Eastern equine encephalitis were traced to mosquitoes in area towns, forcing the cancellation of many outdoor events and town sports. For additional information, call the Board of Health at 508-841-8512.
