A state agency has purchased land near Framingham State University on behalf of the school, and plans are in the works to demolish a vacant and dilapidated historic home on the site to make way for a university parking lot, according to school officials. State land records show that the Massachusetts State College Building Authority is purchasing a nearly 22,000-square-foot parcel at 1000 Worcester Road (Route 9) for $635,000. The property includes the 1812 House, which has a notice posted on it that says the building is “dangerous and unsafe for human occupancy.” Dan Magazu, spokesman for Framingham State, said the university is considering the site for a parking lot after neighbors complained about plans to build a parking garage. The parking area is needed to make up for spots lost when the university builds a 250- to 300-bed dormitory on one its current parking lots. The dorm is slated to open fall 2016. Magazu said the university will conduct a six-month study scrutinizing the environmental and historical impacts before construction starts. Annie Murphy, director of the Framingham History Center, said the 1812 House is recognized as a building with historic value, but declined to comment further.
