Dispose of old medications Saturday

Residents can dispose of unwanted prescription drugs and used medical needles at police headquarters from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in an event sponsored by the Police Department, Board of Health, Council on Aging, and Youth and Family Services. Part of a national initiative, the drug take-back program makes it easy to get rid of prescription drugs that can otherwise be stolen, abused, or disposed of improperly, potentially entering water supplies. The “sharps” collection is in compliance with state regulations that prohibit the disposal of items such as lancets and hypodermic needles in household trash. The sharps and medicines should be separated prior to disposal, and any labels or other identifying information should be removed from containers. For more information, call the Board of Health at 781-275-6507.
