Party to greet bandstand’s revival

After months of raising funds and making repairs, supporters of a historical bandstand next to Town Hall will celebrate its reopening Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. The event will feature live music by various local bands, a magic show geared toward children, and a concession stand with all proceeds going toward the renovation effort. The Depression-era bandstand cost about $6,000 to renovate; it now has interior lighting and a security camera, as well as a new roof, paint job, railings, and granite steps. Previously, the bandstand had been deteriorating and vandalized, and selectmen asked residents early last year whether the town should just tear down the dilapidated structure. The query inspired the formation of a committee to oversee the effort to have it restored.
