Nonantum, a historically Italian-American village of Newton, is also known as the Lake. Because of the percentage of low- and moderate-income households in Nonantum, the village is among four in the city that qualify for the federal Community Development Block Grant program.

Origin of name: Nonantum means “the place of rejoicing” in Algonquian.
