Ban on outdoor watering in effect

A mandatory ban on nonessential outdoor water use is being enforced from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day through Sept. 30, according to the town’s website. The seasonal ban, which began May 1, includes lawn sprinklers and automatic irrigation systems, hose washing of private vehicles, and washing of exterior building surfaces except as necessary to apply paint, preservation or pavement. Lawn watering will be permitted outside the permitted hours on an odd/even system, with even-numbered properties allowed to water on Tuesdays and Thursdays and odd-numbered street addresses on Wednesdays and Fridays. No lawn watering will be allowed on Saturdays, Sundays, or Mondays. Vegetable and flower gardens and new lawns may be watered daily with a hand-held hose or watering can outside the restricted times. For more information on the conservation measure, contact the town’s Water Department at 508-429-0603 or 508-893-6384.
