City sets outdoor watering limits


City officials on Monday announced a mandatory prohibition on all nonessential water usage until further notice. Uses subject to the restriction include watering lawns with sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems, washing of vehicles except for in commercial car washes or as necessary for driver safety, and the washing of building exteriors, parking lots, driveways, or sidewalks, except as necessary to apply surface treatments such as paint or paving material. Permitted water uses include irrigation to establish a new lawn or plantings, irrigation of public parks and fields outside the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and watering with a hand-held hose. Residents and business owners with questions about the restrictions should call the Department of Public Works at 508-624-6910, ext. 7100.
