Tree City campaign takes root

Town officials planted a Bradford pear tree in front of Larkin’s on North Street on Arbor Day, the last step in Medfield’s application for Tree City status. More than 3,400 Tree City USA communities are recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation, which promotes tree planting nationwide. The tree, which will not bear fruit, was donated by the Medfield Employers and Merchants Organization. Meeting another requirement of the designation, the town also published an official set of rules for caring for trees in the community. As part of the Arbor Day celebration on April 26, students in the local after-school program displayed murals they painted of the Bradford pear in each of the four seasons in the windows of the former Lord’s department store on Main Street.
