Town Meeting endorsed plans by the Elementary School Building Committee for a comprehensive feasibility study on renovating or building a new Center School. Participants in the May 6 opening session agreed to let the town spend up to $600,000 for the study, which would be required for the project to qualify for state funding. Building committee members hope to have a plan for a new Center School ready next year. In addition, Town Meeting voters approved a measure allowing the Board of Selectmen to start negotiations to lease land on Fruit Street for a solar power-generating facility. If negotiations are successful, the town would lease two parcels to an alternative-energy company for 20 years. Members of the town’s Sustainable Green Committee say a solar-panel farm could save the town up to $10 million in energy costs over the 20-year period.
