GlobeWest: Players of the Week, Top 10 baseball and softball teams

HIGH 5

Andrew Della Volpe , Concord-Carlisle: With two home runs and four RBIs, the senior catcher bumped his average up to .450 and helped the Patriots double up Dual County League foe Newton South, 10-5.

Victoria Husser , Newton Country Day: In a slugfest, the senior shortstop was on top of the heap, smacking two home runs and knocking in a whopping seven runs to help the Falcons beat Wheeler, 25-20.

Chris Moberg , Hopkinton: Rival pitchers may fear Ryan Sullivan — and rightfully so, considering the senior hit his 30th career home run last week — but junior teammate Moberg showed he can provide plenty of pop himself when he went 4 for 4, with two home runs and a double, and had six RBIs to lead the Hillers past Norton, 10-1.

Anna O’Neill , King Philip Regional: The senior ace tossed a complete-game shutout and then helped her own cause by knocking a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat North Attleborough, 2-0.

Brendan Ryan , Newton North: A complete-game 7-1 victory over Framingham moved the senior righty’s record to 7-0 and reduced his ERA this season to 1.50.

Softball GAME OF THE WEEK

King Philip Regional at Hopkinton, Thursday, 3:45 p.m.: One of the season’s final pretournament games features two of the top teams in the Hockomock League’s Kelley-Rex Division and the Tri-Valley League. It will be a test for Hopkinton and sophomore ace Alissa Karjel, who hurled her team to 11 consecutive wins before last week’s 7-6 loss to TVL rival Bellingham. The Hillers will face a Warriors team that can score runs in bunches, led by senior Tori Constantin and sophomore Renee Poirier, while holding opponents to 0.9 runs per game behind hard-throwing senior righty Anna O’Neill.
