Vote puts $100,000 into casino fight


Town Meeting voters decided to put some muscle into the fight against a proposed $1 billion resort casino in neighboring Milford. During the first session of the annual Town Meeting, residents approved spending up to $100,000 toward legal and consulting expenses to oppose the plan. Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut is working on a proposal for a casino, hotel and entertainment complex on 200 acres off Interstate 495 and Route 16, near the Hopkinton town border. The Board of Selectmen are on the record opposing a casino at the location, and many residents have joined in fighting the proposal. The $100,000 will be used under the direction of Town Manager Norman Khumalo.
