Police Lieutenant Charles Wallace named interim chief

Hopkinton police Lieutenant Charles Wallace has been appointed interim police chief for the next six months until a search for a permanent replacement can be completed. Chief Richard A. Flannery announced his resignation in February after 34 years in law enforcement, citing personal reasons. His resignation became effective June 30. Wallace’s contract includes a provision allowing the town and Wallace to extend the contract for one or two separate, three-month terms if necessary to complete a comprehensive search for a new chief. The search, which is now underway, will be conducted by a six-member committee as well as a municipal search firm.
