Grant aids outreach by Discovery Museums

The Yawkey Foundation has awarded $25,000 to the Discovery Museums to support the institution’s Open Door Connections program, which provides education and activities for children and families who might not otherwise have access to its offerings. Last year, the two museums on Main Street served 38,000 people through Open Door Connections, offering a variety of discounts, scholarships, and free programs. “It is important for children to be exposed to science and inquiry-based learning at an early age, yet many children will never have the opportunity to visit a museum of any kind due to financial, developmental, or cultural barriers,” said Neil Gordon, CEO of the museums. “This generous grant from the Yawkey Foundation will enable us to expand our programs to reach more families in more underserved communities than ever.”
