Police swear in five new officers

Five new officers have been sworn into the Police Department after graduating from the MBTA Transit Police Academy last month. The new officers, John Costa, Robert Smith, Alexander Stotik, Jessica Scearbo and Thomas Kelly, were sworn in July 22, and will have 12 weeks of training with the local force before receiving their regular assignments, Police Chief Fredrick Ryan said in an announcement on their arrival. Ryan said his department is grateful to have the officers to fill vacancies that resulted from retirements. They graduated as part of the 31st class of municipal police officers taking part in the 27-week program at the MBTA academy in Quincy.
