Tax work-off program for seniors

The town is offering a tax work-off program that allows senior citizens to cover part of their real estate taxes by volunteering in various municipal departments. To qualify, participants must be at least 60 years old and own the property on which the tax will be abated. They can earn a maximum of $1,000 per fiscal year, at a rate of $8 per hour for a maximum of 125 hours of work. Interested residents can contact the Upton Center to fill out the necessary paperwork. For more information, visit the Council on Aging’s page at www.uptonma.gov, or call director Jamie Gardner at 508-529-4559.
