Nursing home owes vacation wages

A Waltham nursing home is one of four Boston area facilities that owe a collective $132,000 in restitution and penalties for failing to pay unused vacation wages to departing employees, according to state Attorney General Martha Coakley’s office. The office’s announcement did not specify how much is owed by the Meadow Green Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Woburn Street. The investigation, which was prompted by a complaint from a former employee of the Ellis Nursing Home in Norwood, uncovered a total of 209 people who had not received earned vacation pay from the four operations, the statement said. Grove Manor Estates , and Glen Independent Living at Grove Manor, both in Braintree, were also cited by the AG’s office. The nursing homes involved will pay restitution to the former employees and a penalty to the state. All of the companies fully cooperated with the attorney general’s investigation, according to the agency’s announcement. Any workers who believe they have not been paid all their wages, including earned vacation pay wages, can call the state’s fair labor hot line at 617-727-3465.
