Workshops on college essays, applications

The Friends of the Norfolk Public Library organization is offering two college admissions programs for students and parents from area communities on Aug. 22. Both workshops will be conducted by Lanita Foley, an educational consultant, at the library, 139 Main St. A college essay-writing workshop will be held at 3 p.m., when participants will receive hands-on training on how to craft admissions essays. Parents are encouraged to attend with incoming high school juniors and seniors. The second workshop, on understanding the college admissions process, will be held at 6:30 p.m. It will focus on the application process and timeline, financial aid, and how teens and parents can collaborate during the process. The workshop is open to parents and high school students. Preregistration for both workshops is recommended; for more information, call 508-528-3380 or go to the event’s calendar listing on the library’s website, library.virtualnorfolk.org.
