Deadline, workshop on solar-energy program

Residents have until Sept. 30 to sign up for the local Solarize Massachusetts program, which encourages the installation of solar-power panels through group discounts. Solarize Carlisle members and representatives from SolarFlair Energy Inc. will be conducting a workshop and information session on the program Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Gleason Public Library’s Hollis Room. To find out whether a property might be a good candidate, homeowners should schedule an audit. An employee from SolarFlair, the contractor chosen to provide installations through the town program, will study factors such as the angle of the home’s roof and the amount of shade on the property to calculate its potential solar efficiency and payback period. Also, representatives from the town’s Energy Task Force are available to answer questions about the program on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon at the farmers market in the Kimballs Ice Cream parking lot at 341 Bedford Road. For more information, visit www.greencarlisle.org or send an e-mail to solarize@greencarlisle.org.
