Church offers English course for newcomers

Non-English-speaking residents who are hoping to learn the language can register for a free course next Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at Hope International Church on Bruce Road. The church will hold the English as a second language classes every Sunday, from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., through Dec. 8. The course is free, but there is a cost of $90 for books due at registration. Next Sunday’s event offers registration for students, as well as placement exams and opportunities to meet teachers. Hope International Church has been providing ESL classes led by experienced teachers for over 25 years, according to church officials. Students who sign up can expect to learn vocabulary, grammar, and idioms, and have opportunities to practice conversation and participate in cultural events. The church holds ESL classes throughout the year, and the next session will begin Feb. 2, officials said. The church is one block from Route 20, across from Gore Place, on the Watertown line, and is accessible by the Route 70 MBTA bus line, officials said. To reserve a seat or find out more about ESL classes, students can fill out a registration form on the church’s website, www.hopeic.org, or call 781-891-5238.
