Community celebration next weekend

The annual Spirit of Shrewsbury weekend celebration kicks off Friday with a Hometown Gathering at 7 p.m., and a Painting the Town gallery opening at Shrewsbury Crossings from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, a craft fair and expo featuring about 75 artists and 100 groups will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Oak Middle School. A 5-kilometer road race and fun walk will start at 10 a.m. at Dean Park. A “Kids Got Talent” competition is set for 10 a.m. in the Oak Middle School auditorium, and a kids’ pancake breakfast and fishing derby will start at 7 a.m. at the Shrewsbury Sportsmen’s Club. Next Sunday, a parade will be held beginning at 1 p.m. at the middle school. The weekend also includes a scarecrow and jack-o-lantern display, a book fair at the Beal School, a Shrewsbury Historical Society open house, a family fun and fitness festival, and a tribute tea to recognize residents age 90 and older.
