The town Department of Public Works has begun flushing water mains throughout town, which will continue through Oct. 25. The flushing is intended to remove sediment buildup and ensure the safe operation of hydrants and valves. The process may result in the temporary discoloration of residential water that could stain laundry, officials note. Flushing is taking place from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays, although the discoloration may be seen at other times. For more information, call the department at 508-529-3993.
