High school principal put on leave

Hopkinton High School again has an acting principal after Michael Cournoyer, hired last spring from Holliston High School, was placed on administrative leave. Evan Bishop, who served as interim principal for the first half of this year, was again named to the position. In a letter to parents dated Sept. 24, Superintendent Cathy MacLeod said it was a difficult decision to place Cournoyer on leave. She also said that she understands the community’s frustration at not having more information, and cited privacy laws as the reason for not providing any details about the circumstances of Cournoyer’s leave. Cournoyer, who served as assistant principal at Hopkinton High before taking the top job in Holliston, started his job as Hopkinton High’s principal on Aug. 1. The opening was created when Alyson Geary left her position as principal last December for another job. Cournoyer is one of two new principals in the district this fall; it is also the first year in the system for MacLeod.
