Race raises $6,500 for Krystle Campbell scholarship

Massachusetts Bay Community College raised $6,500 last Sunday through a 5K road race benefiting the Krystle Campbell Scholarship Fund, which honors a former student who was killed in the Boston Marathon bombing this spring. Campbell graduated from MassBay in 2005 with an associate degree in business administration, according to the school, and the scholarship created in her name will help students in the business field. Officials said they have raised a total of $17,000 for the fund, and expect to offer the scholarship to one student per year. On April 15, Campbell, 29, was one of three people killed when two bombs exploded near the Marathon’s finish line. One of the two suspects in the attack, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was killed in a later confrontation with police; his brother, Dzhokhar, is awaiting trial.
