Special election Monday on tax hike

The town is holding a special election Monday, when the polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Center at Medfield, 1 Ice House Road. On the ballot is a proposal to raise property taxes to purchase 31 acres at Foundry and Philips streets, known as Red Gate Farm, for $1.4 million. The land would be used as open space, and is connected to the town-owned 25-acre Scout Land. The Red Gate property may be used for a housing development if the town does not acquire the land. Special Town Meeting voters on Oct. 7 approved the purchase, setting up Monday’s vote on the proposed Proposition 2½ debt-exclusion override.
