School staffer announces run for treasurer

A grant writer and coordinator for the local school district has announced that she will run against the incumbent town treasurer, Stephen Gilligan, this spring. Julie Dunn says she has a background in corporate banking and finance, with 14 years at BankBoston, and also worked in the federal government on banking and financial policy. In an announcement on her campaign, Dunn said that she’s running for treasurer to make business transactions more resident-friendly through measures such as allowing payments by credit card; to streamline accounting practices by installing software in the treasurer’s office that is used by other town departments; and to promote collaboration between the treasurer’s office and the rest of town government. Dunn and Gilligan were the only two candidates for the position as of last week. The last day to take out nomination papers for the April 5 election is Feb. 12.
