Watertown zoning officials approve ‘Linx’ project

Watertown’s Zoning Board of Appeals on July 22 unanimously approved a developer’s request to turn the current Verizon site at 480 Arsenal St. into a 185,000-square-foot office complex dubbed the “Linx,” according to local officials.

Developer Boylston Properties is expected to start construction by this fall, said Steve Magoon, the town’s planning director.

The approval came despite concerns voiced by some local residents and officials over opening a secondary entrance onto Nichols Avenue, citing the impact at nearby intersections and car trips through the neighborhood.

Magoon said the developers agreed to make traffic improvements in the area to encourage slower and safer driving.

“The combination of improvements are all commitments to try and address those traffic impacts,” Magoon said. The primary entrance to the building would be on Arsenal Street, he said.

The developer does not have any tenants confirmed, but expects to sign up to five companies, depending on whether the space will feature offices, labs, or another setup, Magoon said. He said that hundreds of employees could potentially fit in the building.
