A public memorial service for lifelong Arlington Police K9 Dasty will be held Aug. 17 at 10 a.m. A procession will take place in front of the Arlington Police Station, 112 Mystic St., with K9 Units from across the state. A short ceremony will follow on the Brian R. Greeley Memorial Plaza at the rear of the station. Free parking will be available until noon at the Russell Common municipal lot. Dasty died in June after a battle with cancer. A 12-year-old German Shepherd, Dasty was paired with Officer Michael Hogan, and spent the last decade in the schools interacting with students and conducting demonstrations. Throughout his career, Dasty responded to more than 600 calls for service, assisted in more than 40 felony arrests, and was involved in 117 narcotic and evidence seizures including more than $100,000 in cash.
