A team of assessors from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission is scheduled to arrive in Upton Wednesday, Sept. 27. Its task: to examine the police department’s policies, procedures, operations, and facilities as a step toward reaccrediting the department. Accreditation is a self-initiated evaluation process by which police departments strive to meet and maintain standards that have been established for the profession. The standards typically address officer and public safety and risk management issues and promote operational efficiency throughout the department.
